In the triptych above, a “tree of life” becomes a “tree of death” as a nuclear explosion destroys life on earth as we know it. Souls are scattered and the screams of the innocent ring out. In the second image a soul soars upward. A shadow image of the man is seared onto the stairs as actually occurred at Hiroshima. Finally an angel comes to collect the hapless souls, to save then from the hell-fire, and to take them to a better place.
